The Wonders of Autumn

"Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons." Daniel 2:20-21

As I look out my window, I see trees that are just beginning to be kissed with the colors of autumn. There is a coolness in the air that wasn’t there before. Pumpkins and apples are ripe for harvest. Squirrels run busily about, gathering nuts for winter. God is good.

"As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease." Genesis 8:22

After the flood, God promised Noah and his family that He would always send the seasons, and each one that passes is a reminder of His faithfulness. I don’t understand how anyone can behold the beauty of autumn and not believe that there is a God who is in charge. How can they see the animals’ coats thickening as their bodies prepare for winter and the V-shaped formations of the birds as they fly south or the leaves falling and enriching the ground as they decompose, and believe it all happened by chance?

"For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse." Romans 1:20

As we behold the wonders of the changing seasons let us have hearts overflowing with praise to the God who makes it all happen.

"Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations." Psalm 100:4-5
